Anyone Here been Shot And Speaks English?
We’re a very touch-feely new age bunch of tree huggers at EPUK, so we’re constantly amazed at the brutish behaviour of the hackettes on the wimmin’s press.
This month’s Helen Roberts Award for sensitivity in journalism goes to Victoria Lambert of Glamour who emailed campaigning group Military Families Against the War in an attempt to contact widows whose husbands had been killed on active service.
Advising that the bereaved needed to be “photogenic, or at least comfortable in front of a camera” she also stressed the “need to get them shot by the magazine ASAP”.
Not surprisingly MFAW were unimpressed both by the nature of the request and Victoria’s turn of phrase, and the War Widows Association of Great Britain has said it will advise other groups not to co-operate with such enquiries.
Having shot herself in the foot, Victoria has gone AWOL; Glamour editor Jo Elvin has apparently killed the proposed article.
